Frequently Asked Questions

How did Working for Good originate?

Working for Good is a reflection of the individual and collaborative work of various individuals and organizations. Jeff Klein conceived and named the program in the context of his work with clients Peace Cereal and FLOW.

When Peace Cereal decided to award a grant to the Global Nomads Group, Jeff arranged with both Peace Cereal and GNG to develop the content for a GNG program. Since Peace Cereal is dedicated to promoting peace through business and to catalyzing positive action, and since FLOW is dedicated to liberating the entrepreneurial spirit for good, Jeff explored the common ground between his clients, as well as his personal interest in promoting service through business, and Working for Good was born.

What role do the Program Partners play?

Working for Good is truly a collaboration, as it connects the shared interests and intentions of Program Partners, and draws on their unique assets and capabilities to create a vibrant and rich system.

FLOW is the principal content provider for Working for Good. Zaadz is providing the infrastructure to facilitate a dynamic learning community around Working for Good, as well as providing content and financial support. Peace Cereal is providing the principal funding for the first phase of Working for Good, as well as a deep history of service through business. The Global Nomads Group is providing their expertise and technical management, as well as access to their network of schools. And Cause Alliance Marketing is providing program management, integration, and marketing.

Why is John Mackey involved and what is his role?

In addition to being the co-founder and CEO of Whole Foods Market, the world's leading natural and organic foods supermarket, John is a passionate advocate of freedom and entrepreneurship, balanced with love and compassion. John co-founded FLOW with Michael Strong out of his commitment to promote sustainable peace, prosperity, and happiness for all. John provided an article for Lesson 3 of the Working for Good Curriculum, and will participate in one or more the the Working for Good video conferences in May 2006.

What is FLOW?

FLOW is a transpartisan movement combining idealistic initiative with free enterprise principles to promote sustainable peace, prosperity, and happiness for all within 50 years. The name FLOW refers to an optimal state of human experience in which individuals are fully engaged in creative endeavors, experiencing fulfillment, happiness, and well-being. This state is articulated by psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi in Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience. It also refers to the free global flow of goods, services, capital, people, and information, as a means to accelerate human progress and well-being.
